Humor · Love Dotes on Our Attention
All’s Well that Ends Well, Almost
A comedy of misheard romance: one partner innocently admires a photo of two bananas spooning, only to realize too late what "You are my big banana" sounded like to everyone else on the street. The scene is vividly specific and utterly human.
Positive Love Poetry doesn't require perfection. It finds warmth in embarrassment, turning public foolishness into private flirtation: "It sort of turned me on." Playful, visual, and unapologetically fond.
All those times you never
realized exactly what
you were saying, out loud,
in public, for all the world
to hear and then
wonder what it is you really
said while walking.
While you were innocently
referring to that
silly photo of two bananas
spooning with smiles
and eyes and arms
written on their skins,
everyone else heard only
“You are my big banana.”
And why would I bring it
to your attention?!
“Because you knew I was
making a fool of myself.”
“No you weren’t, and it was
a very romantic thing to say.”
“I hardly think it sounded
romantic. More, slutty.”
“It sort of turned me on.”
“See, pure gutter smut.”
“Oh, oh, let me sit down.”
“Maybe you should, dear boy.”
